The Pullins Report (TPR) - Mike Carey Ends His Race for the Right Reasons
September 13, 2007
Dear Friend:
When I started this campaign, I said that family values, common sense conservativism, and an optimistic spirit towards the future would be the bedrock themes of my campaign. Why, because those are the values we share throughout this district.
During the past 3 months I have campaigned daily through out all 16 counties. Attending parades, county fairs and picnics now more than ever I know the values my campaign was built on are what matter most to the people of the 18th.
When I started this voyage I thought I clearly understood the commitment needed to wage this campaign. I was committed to earning your trust, so that I could earn your vote. Unfortunately I made an uncomfortable discovery along the way, that these political obligations are causing me to be away from my family much more than I could have ever imagined.
As our son Prescott begins his first year of kindergarten, I realize my campaigning is causing me be to be away from my family more than is acceptable. Being one who promotes family values, I must live by those same values and it is on that principal I have based my decision.
I will no longer be a candidate for the 18th Congressional District. The next congressman from our district will make decisions that will affect each of our families far into the future. There are other well qualified Republican candidates in this race and we must come together behind whoever prevails. It has been a wonderful experience campaigning throughout the 18th Congressional District, and I look forward to being with each of you again in the future.
Sincerely,Mike Carey
Candidate for Congress
Most readers of The Pullins Report know that Mike is an old and dear friend of mine. He and I have spoken privately at length about this race and the challenges it has posed to his family. I strongly believe that he made the right decision and for the right reasons.
Being a conservative, first and foremost, means that we are about conserving things. At the top of that list is our families. Too many politicians, and would be politicians today, are willing to sacrifice friends and families to advance to the next rung on the ladder. It's nice to see one with the class and character to do the right thing for once.
Well done Mike. Well done.

There is a very strong conservative candidate for congress in the 18th district. Her name is Jeanette Moll.

If those are his real reasons for dropping out, and I have no reason to think otherwise, then I commend him.
