My Statement on the Thom Collier Election Commission Hearings

As I tweeted last night, the Ohio Elections Commission dismissed Thom Collier's complaint against Kris Jordan and my complaints against Collier.  Here's the statement I released to the media this morning:

Ten years ago I said that Thom Collier lacked the fundamental integrity and honesty to serve in public office.  One of the reasons for that statement was his failure to pay his taxes and to be forthcoming about the issue.

Yesterday those statements were vindicated when the Chairman of the Committee, former State Representative Chuck Calvert expressed displeasure concerning Mr. Collier’s lack of disclosure and his unwillingness to be forthcoming about these tax issues.  The committee dismissed Mr. Collier’s complaint because it was clear that he hadn’t paid his taxes for a number of years and could not document that he had ever paid them.

Nearly ten years later, Mr. Collier is still either unwilling or unable to show whether he paid his taxes or not.  He still is unable to provide a cancelled check, a paid receipt, or a letter from the IRS that proves he paid his taxes.

He had three opportunities yesterday to clear up, under oath, these circumstances concerning his taxes.  Not only did he not show up, he instead sent John Freshwater’s personal attorney to represent him.
